Edutainment (also educational entertainment or entertainment-education) is a form of entertainment designed to educate as well as to amuse.

Edutainment typically seeks to instruct or socialize its audience by embedding lessons in some familiar form of entertainment: television programs, computer and video games, films, music, websites, multimedia software, etc.

Examples of this would be guided amphibious duck tours that entertain and educate. There are also lessons that use edutainment as a basis for teaching in a more efficient and faster way.

Most often, edutainment seeks either to tutor in one or more specific subjects, or to change behaviour by engendering specific sociocultural attitudes. This is also used for behavior students in certain schools in the UK.

Successful edutainment is discernible by the fact that learning becomes fun and teachers or speakers educate an audience in a manner which is both engaging and amusing.

Various groups in the United States and the United Kingdom have used edutainment to address such health and social issues as substance abuse, immunization, teenage pregnancy, HIV / AIDS, and cancer.

Yes, you are right "edutainment" is a very effective way to learning English especially for the beginners. Learning games combine thinking with learning. They're like mental exercises So that they'll help the learners to be able to think in English instead of Arabic when they try to speak or write in English and that's very important point in learning process as well as educational learning games improve the learners' skills whether reading or forming sentences or vocabulary or comprehension. But I have to say those games are not the whole process to gain the language we can consider them just as a helper.

I do agree with you that we should seek to incorporate in this forum but the problem is that most of the members like certain kind of games especially easy and fast games. Lastly, thanks 6awash for this nice topic and i'm waiting for your suggestions

Oh, so you figured out I had something in mind!

Yes, I have a contest in mind, or let's call it a game since 'contest' sounds a whole lot challenging.

I call it "Test your Knowledge with Synonyms"

The purpose of the game is that a member posts a word, and then asks others to name its synonyms. And in order to make the game easy, the first member needs to give the first letter of the synonym.

The game depends on the speed of the members, so the first one to put the right synonmy wins a point and gets to post the next word and requires its synonym.

However, we can't make the game too easy, meaning we should warn members before starting that nobody should post either a word of its synonym twice, and that the member who does will lose a point, even if has zero points (in this case it will become -1.

By this we encourage members to expand their knowledge of words and their synonyms, and urge them to go back and forth to make sure they don't repeat the words that are already used.

Also, it will encourage members to check their thesaurus more often.

Anyway, the game will not go forever, so the one who reachs 50 or 100 wins.
