Lesson 1: Countables and Uncountables Beginners don't realize that nouns have
two forms, Countables and Uncountables A Countable Noun means a noun that refers to something you could count; things you count you could count are those which have a single entity and not joined by a mass of the same thing Examples of Countable Nouns include Table, Chair, Bottle; these things are single and separate from other things On the other hand, an Uncountable Noun refers to something you cannot count, because it's not a single thing, but a group of things joined together to form a mass Examples of Uncountable Nouns include Water, Blood, Air; these things are not a single thing, but a group of things joined together, not separate It's important to differentiate between Countables and Uncountables, because while you could use both to refer to singular and plural nouns in speaking, you cannot do the same when writing In written speech, you differentiate between a singular noun and a plural noun by adding an 's' at the end of the noun. Countables could use 's' at the end to change it into the plural form, such as Tables, Chairs, Bottles On the other hand, Uncountables don't need an 's' at the end to change it into the plural form, which means that you can still write Water, Blood, Air, Equipment to refer to the plural form in written speech As a result, adding an 's' at the end of Uncountables to make them plural is a frequent 'spelling mistake' that beginners often make Hopefully, my explanation covers the overall matter of spelling mistakes related to Countables and Uncountables; you could learn the list of Countables and Uncountables from dictionaries, and probably websites. Also, you could learn them from your everyday pursuit to master the English language

Lesson 2: Splitting Compounds Now many beginners easily make mistakes with Compounds. A Compound is a word that combines two or sometimes more different words. Often, the meaning of the Compound cannot be discovered by knowing the meaning of the different words that form it. In other words, a compound is two words joined together from two original words; those two words would mean something when they are separate, but might mean something entirely different when joined together into a Compound For example, the word 'every' means all, and 'one' refers to a single thing. When we join both words together we get the Compound 'Everyone', which means every person Compounds could be made using two original words, such as Firefighter, Furthermore, Bodyguard, Evermore. Compounds could also be made using three original words, such as Nonetheless (None, The, Less), Whatsoever (What, So, Ever) and other examples I can't remember now To conclude, a Compound is a single word even if it was made using three original words. Thus, it's considered a spelling mistake to 'split' compounds into their original forms. So, writing 'body guard' instead of 'bodyguard' is a common spelling mistake beginners make Many dictionaries provide a list of compounds, but you could learn them in your everyday pursuit of mastery over English Below is further explanation of the second lesson

[size="4"][i]ASSALAMOU 3ALAYKUM WA RAHMATULLAH WA BARAKATU
May Allah's blessing and peace bestow upon you Some word are well known to be one word of two original words ((COMPOUND)) everybody everyone someone somehow somewhere something weekend weekday braodcast broadmind website whoever whenever wherever whatever these words are not to be written splitted Examples of how the splitting changes the meaning if you write ((every one))..... this means each ....... and 1 but ((everyone)) means all people if you write ((everywhere)) ........... it means all over the place or area but ((every where)) ............... ((every)) means all - ((where)) here has another definition of meaning though; the meaning changes if we split the compound word beautiful ........................ it is a compound word of beauti ((beauty)) and ful ((full)) together they give the meaning of something very nice ... so now I want every person passing by this explanation to train themselves on those words ....................................... good luck ................ see u soon with our next lesson

Lesson 3: Verb Disagreement...A Let's talk more about verb when we address this type of spelling mistakes, we will first address one type of spelling mistakes resulting from verb disagreement
We know that a verbal sentence, one which has a verb, has to meet an agreement rule to be grammatically correct. There are three cases of the verbal sentence: past, present and future (In Arabic, it's past, present and order), remember Now let's take me for instance with my lessons. When we want to describe my activity in the past, we would say: Tawash 'wrote' the third spelling mistakes lesson today If we want to describe my activity in the present, we would say: Tawash 'writes' spelling mistakes everyday If we want to describe my activity tomorrow, we would say: Tawash 'will write' the fourth lesson tomorrow Now you can see that we have three forms of activities, the past, present and the future. Notice that the 'verb' in all three forms is different, it's because every form describes a different time sequence In short, writing the 'verb' in its 'correct form' according to the 'time sequence' of the context is called Verb Agreement. Thus, if you don't write the verb with accordance to the correct time sequence, not only you make a grammatical mistake, but also a spelling mistake. It means you lose two types of marks in such 'fatal' mistakes, grammar and spelling If you pay attention to the text of this lesson closely, you will notice that all verbs agree with their time sequences, thus have correct spelling To conclude, it's very important to pay attention to the time sequence in the verbal sentence in order to avoid this type of spelling mistake

Lesson 4: Changes occuring in the spelling Assalamu Alaikum
Here are some spelling rules related to the changes occuring in spelling of the word when adding suffixes such as: -s / - ed / - ing / - est / - er / - or to it . I wish they will be helpful The changes are A) Doubling the last consonant B) Changing y into i C) Taking off the last e D) Changing i into y E) Adding e to a word F) Changing f into v What determine the changes made in the spelling are two things One) The number of the syllables parts the word consisting of, since as it is known some English words has more than one syllable Two) The type of the letters the word ending with: consonant / vowels The Vowels are: a - e - i - o - u The Consonants are the rest of the letters A) Doubling The Last Consonant The last consonant is doubled when adding the suffixes -ing / -er / -or / -ed / -est to a word ending with one vowel + one consonant in the following situations a) the word has one syllable; e.g. sit – sitting / big – bigger b) the word has more than one syllable and the last syllable is stressed; e.g. begin – beginning c) the word ends in L preceded by one vowel; e.g. travel – travelled * In American English the last L is not always doubled unless the last syllable is stressed e.g. the last syllable in the word travel is not stressed, so the Americans write traveler; and the last syllable in the word control is stressed, so they write controller * the last consonant is not doubled when adding the suffix: -s e.g. stop – stops * the consonants w/ y / z can never be doubled e.g. slow – slower * the last consonant is not doubled if it is preceded by another consonant e.g. drink – drinking * the last consonant is not doubled if it is preceded by more than one vowel e.g. repeat – repeating B) Changing y into i The last y is changed into i when adding the suffixes -s / -er / -or /-ed / -est to a word ending with one consonant + y e.g. try – tried / city – cities * the last y is not changed into i if it is preceded by a vowel e.g. The word play – played / buy – buyer boy – boys * the last y is not changed into i when adding the suffix -ing e.g. try – trying buy – buying C) Taking off the Last e The last e can be taken off when adding the suffixes - ing to a word ending with a silent e e.g. use – using take – taking * the last e can not be taken off if it isn’t silent e.g. be – being / see – seeing D) Changing i into y The i is changed into y when adding the suffixes -ing to a word ending with i+e e.g. die – dying / lie – lying E) Adding an e to a word An e can be added to a word when adding the suffix -s to words ending with ch / sh / s / x / and sometimes o e.g. watch – watches / crash – crashes / class – classes / go – goes / go – goes / tomato – tomatoes exceptions: kilo – kilos / photo – photos radio – radios F) Changing f into v Some times, f is changed into v when forming the plural for regular nouns ending with f/fe e.g. half – halves / wife – wives exception: belief – beliefs plural irregular nouns e.g. fish - fish / man - men / foot - feet / tooth - teeth Best regards التعديل الأخير كان بواسطة : طواش بتاريخ 08-31-2008 الساعة 01:57 AM. السبب: Just refining this excellent input |
