New Blood: Chapter1
![]() Khalid: Thank you very much All happiness in the world glittered on Khalid’s face, the number of people surrounding him, the bright decorations on the walls of his living room, and the large cake placed on a round table, laced with delicious toppings, as well as a large sentence stating Hassan: You are the Boss Khalid was interrupted by Hassan’s hand placed on his shoulder, so he turned towards him while Hassan said Hassan: You really deserve the promotion dude, but please don’t work us like dogs Khalid: Oh, you have no idea what I’ve got in store for you all Hassan cackled vehemently, and upon turning around he noticed Jamal approaching. Hassan grimaced in slight contempt, saying Hassan: Here comes the joy killer Jamal gave Hassan the most ridiculing look, then turned to Khalid saying seriously Jamal: You might’ve become my boss now, but don’t ever think I will butter you up like these losers Hassan glared at Jamal and moved towards him, but Khalid grabbed him, saying in a soothing tone Hassan: Take it easy dude; Jamal just loves to annoy you Jamal: Annoying anyone is the last thing I seek said Jamal, moving his eyes between Hassan and Khalid, before fixing them on the latter, continuing Jamal: I merely say the truth, and that seems to upset everyone but me Khalid: It doesn’t upset me at all, if that’s what you are implying Jamal eyed Khalid for a while then said in a determined tone Jamal: I know you deserve the promotion you got, but do you think you’ve got what it takes to lead your juniors effectively Khalid: What exclaimed Khalid, and then pondered over the question awhile, after which he said in a tone he tried to make it as convincing as possible Khalid: Of course I know what it takes to be a leader, why else do you think I was promoted and made Director of the Total Quality Management Department, despite the fact that your service is longer than mine Jamal was taken aback with Khalid’s remark, and his face turned pale, a sight Hassan enjoyed considerably, and to which he yelled Hassan: Oh, has the cat eaten your tongue Mr.Pale Loser Jamal eyed Hassan angrily, and then turned to Khalid, who said Khalid: I’m sorry if the bitter truth upset you Jamal: It didn’t, I was only hoping you brace yourself for the upcoming responsibilities of a true leader Khalid wanted to answer that, but words were lost in his mind. It was a thought that accompanied him for the rest of that day, and even when we got ready to sleep. It was too overpowering a question that even sleep faded away, but came back early morning, or hardly even came

New Blood: Chapter2
Khalid’s first challenge came in the form of his new office, which was occupied by Ahmed for about 15 years before him. Khalid revered Ahmed thoroughly and learnt a lot from him, it burdened his heart to have to occupy his office after he was deemed ‘obsolete’ as per the new theories of quality management. Ahmed was far-sighted and saw what was coming, thus he chose to leave in dignity Khalid walked towards the chair and looked at it for a while, a long while as a matter of fact. He was lost in thoughts, and then he started wondering to himself, “If the hotshot Ahmed was deemed ‘ineffective’ with all of his experience, would I pull it off? I mean I know they promoted me because of my efforts in contributing to the authority’s win of an IZO, but would that be enough to put me to the test of heading the quality division of the whole authority Khalid’s thoughts were taken back to Hassan’s question, ‘Would he be an effective leader After much hesitation, Khalid sat on the chair and dove into his deep consideration mode; his elbows on the table while, his face diving inside his palms, and his eyes fixed his reflection on his switched of computer screen. After much speculation, Khalid asked himself, “What is leadership really Khalid thought of the Director General Ali, a tough and serious official for the past 10 years. Khalid reflected on the effect of Ali’s personalities on his workers; they were punctual, always on time and hardly arrive late to work. They do their prescribed responsibilities effectively, or as Ali puts it, ‘Deliver the goods After a while, a strange thought crossed Khalid’s mind, which descended to his tongue, “Does Ali even know the last names of his most junior workers Khalid was caught up red-handed with his own remark, after much thought he realized we were no different

New Blood: Chapter3
Kamal: In this time of crisis, one cannot but thank Allah that he remains employed Khalid nodded to Kamal’s remark, an office boy in his department. He heard the controversial story of workers fired in order to cut down on the companies’ depleting budgets; their stories-the workers’ not the companies-were truly heart-wrenching. However, Khalid strongly believes in the well-known saying: One’s loss could be another’s gain Khalid works in a government authority, whose services offered to the public for free, or low fees. He deemed the global crisis as the optimal opportunity to steer the authority towards fund-raising strategies in order to continue projects that were heavily affected with the budget cut-down as pre-emptive measures to guarantee liquidity for the government. The bottom line for most government companies was: Yesterday swam in high budget, now subsist on small one As a result, most of the ambitious projects he foresaw for the advancement of total quality management were affected when their funding was denied; it has been the biggest challenge for him as the new Director of Total Quality Management! Ali is old school, he would definitely reject my vision, Khalid thought to himself, but he couldn’t give it up, not before he try out his luck. Thus, he waited for him one day until the end of working hour. When Ali left his office, he was surprised to see Khalid at the waiting area, and asked Ali: What are you doing Khalid, it’s already 30 minutes past the working hour Khalid: Can’t I say the same thing to you? Ali eyed him for a while, and then said Ali: You needn’t worry about my working hours, as the DG it won’t hurt me to stay later than the working ours sometimes, should the responsibilities demand so Khalid: I’m no different than Mr.Ali, we all follow your lead. Ali gave him a strange look, which conveyed disbelief to Khalid. As a result, he continued Khalid: Plus there is something I wanted to talk to you about, but I was unable to do so before due to your continuous meetings earlier today Ali rubbed his chin thoughtfully, and said to himself: Who is he buttering up? Does this kid think I’m a fool However, aloud, he said while going back to his office Ali: Al right, come in Khalid followed Ali to his office, and sat after him, saying Khalid: I have a proposal that is most suitable amidst this time of crisis, namely the cut down on our annual government budgeting Ali’s attention was gripped by Khalid’s introduction, to which the latter felt pleased and went on Khalid: I propose to generate funds for the authority through special deals with Ali: Denied Khalid was utterly taken aback with Ali’s sudden interruption, who continued strongly Ali: We are a government authority and our services are offered for free, we don’t generate funds Khalid snapped out of his astonishment and said Khalid: But if only you listen to my proposal Ali: I’ve already heard something of this sort twice today, and don’t feel like listening anymore Khalid was surprised that someone beat him to it, he couldn’t speak from this turn of events, while Ali said Ali: This conversation is over, unless there is something else you would to talk about Khalid looked at him for a moment, not knowing what to say. After a while, he stood up saying Khalid: No, sorry for taking your time. Ali: It’s okay, see you tomorrow Khalid nodded with a smile he tried hard to force to his face, and then left with his mind bustling with thoughts, and disappointments

New Blood: Chapter4
Khalid: What a pigheaded boss we have Hassan patted on Khalid's shoulders at his office the next day, who frowned and continued Khalid: I've always revered Ali for his toughness and straightforwardness as a leader for this authority, but I was disappointed not only with his short sight of seeing the fruits of proposal, but the fact that he didn't hear me to the end and just cut me off. I mean who he thinks he is anyway Hassan: Ali is a leader by the book, he has probably refused your proposal because the rules and regulations of the authority deny fund-raising in the manner you suggested, or rather those who did before you Khalid: But how could he say I propose exactly the same as they did, couldn't he just let me speak my mind to see whether there might be a difference in our visions Hassan: That's Ali, he is old school Khalid: Arrghh, grunted Khalid in disapproval, he wasn't the kind of a person who just gives in the hardships that cross his way. After a short speculation, he asked Hassan Khalid: What do you think I should do now Hassan looked sympathetically at his friend and said Hassan: I know you won't like what I say, but I suggest you give your mind peace and forget the whole matter. Just move on Khalid: What Khalid was annoyed with Hassan's suggestion, his ardent spirit had enough fire to fight back Ali's stubbornness, he merely needed someone's support to maximize his resolution Thus, he suddenly stood up saying Khalid: Not a chance in the world, I won't prove Jamal right when he questioned my credibility as a leader on my new post Hassan: Don't let that maggot cloud your judgments, you told me then that he was merely annoying me Khalid: Yes, and sadly he succeeded in annoying me, both he and Ali Hassan: Just let it go Khalid, why insist on this matter anyway, just to prove yourself in your new post Khalid looked at Hassan indignantly, and lashed out Khalid: Is that what you really think, that I insist on my idea just to show off as a new director in this authority Hassan: Well Khalid: Absolutely not, I do this for the good of my country. I know we live in a time of financial crisis, and that as an official entrusted with one of the key sectors in the authority should practice my role in easing on my government with regard to their funding. I understand their reasons to cut our budget, as they did with the other authorities, they did that as a precautionary measure from their part, and now we should be responsible and do out part in the formula, don’t we Hassan looked confused and didn’t say a word, thus, Khalid walked around his office in hot temper, after which he stood suddenly and looked at Hassan silently. Hassan knew his friend's habit of refusing to give in the obstacles that cross his path, and, thus, looked back silently. On the other hand, Khalid breathed out, saying to himself Khalid: I shouldn't expect anyone to help me out, this is my own problem
